Our client, Silver Creek Pre-School, is looking for a part-time Physical and Occupational Therapy Assistant (PTA/OTA) to support our team of Physical and Occupational Therapists. Silver Creek Pre-School primary mission is to provide a positive pre-school setting with therapeutic (physio, occupational, speech & language, and music therapy) services delivered within a caring and creative early education classroom.

The primary role of the PTA/OTA is to implement programs designed by our senior therapists to support our special needs children in our pre-school classrooms.

Located in Etobicoke, Silver Creek Pre-School has been serving children with physical and developmental challenges since 1975 when local parents petitioned the provincial government for funding and support in starting a program.

With over 60 children being supported each year, we help children with and without physical and developmental challenges to achieve success as defined by each child and family.

We are dedicated to working with our families, the community and other professionals to ensure that the unique promise of each child is realized.


Physical and Occupational Therapy Assistant

This important support role entails following the direction of assigned therapists to ensure the carry over of therapy practice within the classrooms. 


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Carry out delegated program activities with children as directed by the Therapy team.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that the interventions completed with children are documented and available to the Therapy Team.
  • Encouraged to be creative in assisting children with limited motor skills to achieve play as independently as possible.
  • Be aware of classroom program plan, making every effort to provided support within the scope of the regular design of the classroom.
  • Meet on a consistent basis with supervisors to ensure good communication around expectation and job tasks.
  • Ensure that you remain in assigned classroom for the full 2 hours of each program unless otherwise requested.
  • Maintain safe, cleaned, and organized environment, equipment, and supplies


Educational Requirement

  • PTA/OTA Diploma from an Accredited College Program


Skills required:

  • A strong understanding of children with physical and developmental challenges.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and interpersonal
  • Ability to receive and carry out direction.
  • Flexible to suit the needs of the children, as directed by therapists, in support of the entire school
  • Able to lift and carry children.
